Top Ten Liberal Illusions

I thought it would be fun to list what I take to be the illusions of each side in the political uncivil war in the USA, starting with liberals.

  1. More equal income distribution is unrelated to improved wealth creation
  2. There is no real need to fix the Federal deficit any time soon
  3. It is unimportant that there is significant waste in government spending
  4. It is not important that liberals are disunited and lack a central cohesive political strategy
  5. Nuclear power is inherently dangerous
  6. Climate change can be tackled without disruption to living standards i.e. there is such a thing as a free lunch
  7. The US does not need much defending in a dangerous world and the military tradition of public service does not count for much
  8. Poor Americans who don’t vote Democrat are deluded, rather than Democrats have failed to understand and promote policies that appeal to poorer Americans
  9. Medicare and Social Security do not need reform and are inherently affordable
  10. It is not necessary to listen to the other side in politics because they are generally a pretty evil bunch

I spent 32 years in a Fortune Five company working on conflict: organizational, labor relations and senior management. I have consulted in a dozen different business sectors and the US Military. I work with a local environmental non profit. I have written a book on the neuroscience of conflict, and its implications for conflict handling called Creative Conflict Wisdom (forthcoming).

Willingly I accept. The question is interesting, I too will take part in discussion. I know, that together we can come to a right answer.
