The Argument Pyramid

I really like my friend Bella’s diagram: But in the spirit of this blog I would add two more layers to the top of the pyramid:

  • Take your opponent’s central point and if the arguments are sound, accept and change your mind
  • Take your opponent’s central point and put it with your counter point and create a synthesis that is better than either your or their central point: a creative new solution that transcends the either/or.

About creativeconflictwisdom

I spent 32 years in a Fortune Five company working on conflict: organizational, labor relations and senior management. I have consulted in a dozen different business sectors and the US Military. I work with a local environmental non profit. I have written a book on the neuroscience of conflict, and its implications for conflict handling called Creative Conflict Wisdom (forthcoming).
